Spelling
Each week (that we do not have a project happening), students will be studying different spelling lessons. On Monday, students will take the spelling pretest. If they achieve a 100% on the pretest, they do not have to complete the post test. The worksheet is distributed on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, we play Sparkle (a review game). Thursdays will be the due date for the worksheet while Friday is the post test.

Making Laws Webquest
As an introduction to sharing lessons with Social Studies class, students completed a webquest based on making laws and congressional procedures. While completing this webquest, student were asked to think outside the box, write a paragraph, and use complete sentences. The paragraph from Page 3 will be used as a sample paragraph for our study of paragraphs.
Paragraphs
The study of paragraphs begins with looking at a paragraph that has already been written by the students. They will then edit the paragraph according to the rules of an "8th grade" paragraph. Students will be using a Google Document (Google Drive) to record their paragraph writing.

Blue Ribbon Ceremony
For this ceremony, students chose one individual that has made a positive difference in their life. In preparation, the students personalized a blue ribbon for their guest, wrote a 6-word memoir about their guest, and constructed a paragraph describing why and how their guest impacted their life in a positive way. In a shining moment, students honored their guest at a Blue Ribbon Ceremony held at the Clear lake Auditorium.
Community Documentary of Entrepreneurial Businesses/Business Owners
Students work either alone, with a partner, or in a group of three in order to create a documentary film based on a local business. They will use their knowledge of 21st Century Skills (phone conversation, interview questioning, and technology use) along with their understanding of entrepeneurship and the local economy. Each group is responsible for following the plan they created together in order to complete the documentary film by January 9th. A sample student plan is below. The documentary requirements can also be seen below.
Short Story Writing
Students will complete a series of activities that coordinate with the five different elements of a short story. The activities will be completed as students work through a draft of their own short story. There will also be different vocabulary terms addressed.
